President Obama’s got some work to do…

I was quite surprised to read that the White House has a rather antiquated computer network.

Two years after launching the most technologically savvy campaign in
history, Obama officials ran smack into the constraints of the federal
bureaucracy, encountering a jumble of disconnected phone lines, old
computer software and security regulations forbidding outside email
accounts. "It is like going from an Xbox to an Atari," Obama spokesman Bill Burton said of his new digs.

I mistakenly assumed from watching the TV Series The West Wing, that the White House already had a modern computer network. I mean, we saw Deputy Chief-Of-Staff Josh Lyman use his Blackberry. How naive and wrong I was.

As someone employed in the IT Profession, it'll be interesting to see how President Obama's Administration can modernise the White House, and drag the West Wing kicking and screaming into the 21st Century. Good luck, Mr. President.
