More proof that some parts of the world are…well…crazy

A 9-year old girl in Brazil has an abortion after being found to be pregnant with twins after being raped by her father. The Brazilian Catholic Churches response?

"She is very small. Her uterus doesn't have the ability to hold one,
let alone two children," Maia told the Jornal do Brasil newspaper.

But
Marcio Miranda, a lawyer for the Archdiocese of Olinda and Recife in
northeastern Brazil, said the girl should have carried the twins to
term and had a cesarean section. "It's the law of God: Do not kill. We consider this murder," Miranda said in comments reported by O Globo.

If this young girl had died while carrying the pregnancy – that would've been murder. This is an example of the Catholic Church adhering to an idealogy, even after clear medical (and legal) proof had been produced that a life would've been threatened.

And in another example of insanity:

An Australian cricket umpire caught up in the deadly ambush on
Sri Lanka's cricket team has expressed his anger and disappointment
over security arrangements for the tour. Steve Davis was in the convoy taking the Sri Lankan cricket team
to the cricket ground in the Pakistani city of Lahore when gunmen
opened fire on his van. Davis criticised security arrangements saying his van, which was
behind the Sri Lankan team bus, was left without any security when
it was being fired upon.

The media are reporting this as fact, but thus far neither witness has produced any proof of their claims. I do wonder, however, why the Sri Lankan bus had a security detail while the Western contingent were left open to attack. I knew Pakistanis were hostile towards Westerners – I just didn't realise how much.

Thank goodness I live in Tasmania.
