Just what is so socialist about urging students to work hard and stay at School?

It has been awhile since I've updated this blog. I suppose it's partly because my life has been so busy lately. But I couldn't allow this article to pass without comment –

HOUSTON ā€” President Obamaā€™s
plan to deliver a speech to public school students on Tuesday has set
off a revolt among conservative parents, who have accused the president
of trying to indoctrinate their children with socialist ideas and are
asking school officials to excuse the children from listening.

I'm finding it harder and harder to respect, or even comprehend a certain section of the Conservative movement in the US. Just what is so socialist about urging students to work hard and stay in school? My own parents encouraged their children to study because the rewards – both personal, professional and financial – later on in life are worth the effort. In our Capitalist society, having a good education means having a better skilled workforce which means a more prosperous economy.

And just what is so socialist about that?
